Newcomers who took part in at least one official tournament during the season get the chance at the end of the season to measure their playing skills against the other greenhorns. It is an opportunity that comes to players only once in a career, namely in their very first playing season, and never again.

Rules: Read the rules of the Smoking Cat card game as observed at official Smoking Cat tournaments.

Points: No points are awarded at the newcomers' tournament. There is, however, definitely plenty to play for.

Prizes: The tournament winner wins the original GreenHorn Cat trophy and a seat at the card table of the Masters, the top major tournament of the season's best players. Diplomas for the top three, commemorative items.

Player seeding for GreenHorn Cat

The seeding of 10 to 12 players for GreenHorn Cat is determined by the current season standings; wild cards will then be handed out for non-scoring players – the thirteenth and further newcomers have their participation secured in the following season.
